How to Keep Moving When Plans Change

career development community support leadership growth native women rise navigating change overcoming setbacks professional development progress not perfection resilience Oct 29, 2024

I was ready to launch Native Women RISE this week—everything was lined up. And then, technical issues hit. At first, I was frustrated. But the truth is, I was also scared—scared that the delay would make people lose trust in the program, scared that it wouldn’t live up to expectations. For a moment, I couldn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.

How many of you have been there?

I’d love to say I handled it gracefully from the start, but I didn’t. I was angry, overwhelmed, and ready to believe the worst. Frankly, I’m still learning how to stay focused and motivated when big setbacks hit. In fact, my first draft of this post drifted toward expecting the worst, and I had to consciously shift my thinking to, What if the best is still ahead?

That shift didn’t come easily, but I’m learning. And I want to share a few things I’ve picked up along the way—not as steps, but as reminders. These moments of struggle? They teach us more than we realize.

What Helps Me Move Through Setbacks

  • Recognize the Signs of Frustration.
I’m learning to notice when I’m getting stuck in frustration. When it hits, I physically step away—even just for 5 minutes. It's amazing how focusing on something else, even briefly, can change my perspective.
  • Lean into Community.
We’re not meant to do everything alone. Asking for help, or just sharing what’s on your mind with someone, lightens the weight. It doesn’t have to be big—sometimes just knowing someone’s there makes all the difference.
  • Focus on What’s in Your Control.
Letting go of what I can’t control has been a tough lesson, but it’s necessary. When I shift my attention to what I can influence, I feel more grounded and less overwhelmed.
  • Expect the Best, Even When It’s Hard.
This is still a work in progress for me. My first instinct is often to brace for the worst, but I’m trying to expect good things—even when they don’t happen on my timeline. It’s not about being overly optimistic; it’s about staying open to possibility.

What Native Women RISE Is All About

Native Women RISE isn’t just a membership—it’s a gathering place. It’s about showing up for ourselves and each other, learning, growing, and taking action toward our career goals. It’s built on the belief that growth is more meaningful when we do it together—when we lift each other up along the way.

Whether you’re stepping into a new role, building your network, or sharpening your leadership skills, Native Women RISE offers the tools and support to help you take the next step. It’s about making space for reflection, accountability, and growth—not perfection.

Looking Ahead: The Next Steps for Native Women RISE

The delay isn’t what I planned, but it’s given me time to fine-tune everything so that Native Women RISE will be worth the wait.

  • Launch in 2 Weeks: A firm date will be announced by November 7th.
  • Founding Member Discount: Those on the waitlist will receive a special rate.
  • New Features: We’re adding tools and refining resources to make the experience even better.
  • First to Know: Waitlist members will get early access and updates.

Final Thoughts: Trusting the Process, Even When It’s Hard

This delay hasn’t been easy. I’ve had moments of frustration, fear, and doubt—but I’m still moving forward. And that’s what I want to leave you with today: Keep going, even when it feels messy.

Progress isn’t always visible, and the path forward won’t always look the way you imagined it. But each step, no matter how small, moves you closer. We don’t have to figure it all out right now—we just need to keep showing up.

If you haven’t already, I’d love for you to join the waitlist for Native Women RISE. This journey is just beginning, and I’d be honored to have you with me.
